Lisa Theng has been in practice since 1991 and has vast experience in corporate litigation prior to focusing her practice in the areas of Corporate Advisory and Corporate and Commercial services.
In the area of corporate law, she has advised both Singapore and foreign companies in major acquisitions and disposal transactions and has also advised on investment and other corporate agreements where parties are in dispute.

Shahla Ali is Professor of Law and Associate Dean (International) at the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law and Director of the LLM Program in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution. Her work centers on questions of governance, sustainable development and cross-border dispute resolution in the Asia Pacific region. She serves as a bilingual arbitrator (English/Chinese) with HKIAC, LCIA, CIETAC, KCAB and SIAC.
Shahla has been engaged in dispute resolution reform at the regional and global levels including with USAID, IFC/World Bank, ADB, AIIB and the United Nations on issues pertaining to access to justice, peace process negotiation training, financial dispute resolution and land use conflict resolution. Dr. Ali’s work highlights the role of devolved participation, legal harmonisation and regional diversity in the design of cross border dispute resolution systems. Her recent books including Forming Transnational Dispute Settlement Norms (Elgar, 2021), The UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration (Cambridge, 2020), Court Mediation Reform (Elgar, 2018), Governing Disasters (Cambridge, 2016), Consumer Financial Dispute Resolution in a Comparative Context (Cambridge, 2013) and Resolving Disputes in the Asia Pacific (Routledge, 2010), have informed legal developments in the Asia Pacific and contributed to the emergence of a growing body of work examining comparative dispute resolution systems from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Before joining HKU, Shahla worked as an attorney in the international trade group with Baker & McKenzie in its San Francisco office. She has held visiting academic positions with the National University of Singapore, NYU, Science Po, UCLA, Renmin University, Duke, UC Berkeley, Max Plank and Stanford.

Shahla is happy to supervise research students in the area of law and sustainable development, cross border dispute resolution and conflict mitigation.

Hye Kyung Lim started her legal practice at Shearman & Sterling in New York in 1997, and moved to Kim & Chang in 2003, continuing her work on various international transactions, finance and capital market transactions, such as securities offering, project financing, asset securitization, structural financing, asset management, private equity investments, M&A and other cross border transaction. Joel Richler has over 45 years experience as a trial, arbitration and appellate counsel, arbitrator and mediator. He is a former partner at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP where he chaired the litigation group at that firm’s Toronto office. After obtaining his civil and common law degrees at McGill University Law School and joining Blakes, Joel appeared before all levels of the courts in Ontario, New Brunswick and British Columbia, and he appeared in the Federal Court of Canada (Trial and Appeal Divisions) as well as the Supreme Court of Canada.
Joel has long been an advocate of the use of arbitration as an efficient means of resolving commercial disputes. Won L. Kidane is a professor of law and the director of the International Entrepreneurship Program in South Africa. This program offers an opportunity for upper-level Villanova Law students to spend a semester in Cape Town in collaboration with the University of Cape Town.
Before joining Villanova Law, Kidane taught at Seattle University School of Law for 15 years, which followed three years of teaching at Penn State Law. Prior to joining the legal academy, he practiced law in Washington, DC with Hunton & Williams and Piper Rudnick (now DLA Piper) for four years.
